According to the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), obesity impacts one in three Americans. They estimated in 2007 that more than 93 million Americans were obese, with that number predicted to rise to 120 million in the next few years. Among these statistics, the OAC estimates that 8 to 10 million Americans are morbidly obese, or at least 100 pounds overweight

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) continues to monitor the prevalence of obesity as a growing health concern for adults, children and adolescence in this country.  According to a CDCP study in 2007, Colorado was the only state with less than a 20% prevalence of obesity.  Thirty of the fifty states had a greater obesity prevalence of more than 1 in 4 people.
